As a System Safety Engineer, you will be a key contributor in ensuring our hardware and software meet safety and quality requirements. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of tasks, including supporting the quality management system and ensuring compliance with functional safety standards.

Location: Global Headquarters in Ann Arbor, MI
Schedule: M-F, 4-5 days per week in office, flexibility as needed


Key Areas of Responsibility
System Development and Integration:

  • Collaborate with Hardware and Software teams to design, develop, and integrate control systems for diverse applications.
  • Ensure seamless communication and integration between software and hardware components.

Quality Management System Support:

  • Contribute to the implementation and adherence to the quality management system (QMS).
  • Perform regular testing and assessments to ensure adherence to quality standards.

Functional Safety Compliance:

  • Support efforts to achieve and maintain compliance with functional safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262).
  • Provide expertise on safety-related systems and contribute to safety analyses.

Requirements Engineering:

  • Work closely with stakeholders to gather and document system requirements.
  • Ensure clear traceability of requirements throughout the development lifecycle.

Risk Management:

  • Identify and assess potential risks related to system design and implementation.
  • Implement risk mitigation strategies to enhance system reliability and safety.

Testing and Validation:

  • Develop and execute test plans to validate system functionality and safety.
  • Collaborate with testing teams to ensure comprehensive test coverage.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including system specifications, manuals, and safety documentation.
  • Generate reports on system performance, safety metrics, and compliance status.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay abreast of industry trends, standards, and emerging technologies.
  • Propose and implement process improvements to enhance system development efficiency and quality.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Proven experience in system engineering, particularly in software and hardware integration.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems and functional safety standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Knowledge of control systems, automation, and safety-critical applications.
